25-Oct-2011

  • Efficient: 130 hp & 160hp ecoFLEX models both sit inside tax band A
  • Introduction of new 1.4 Turbo petrol engine which sits comfortably in tax band B
  • Integrated Satellite Navigation System now as standard in SC & above
  • Introduction of SRi Limited Edition with special OPC styling equipment

Dublin, 25th October, 2011: Opel are delighted to announce further improvements to the award-winning Insignia for 2012, designed to further improve the driving experience while reducing the running costs of this extremely popular model.

Ongoing engine and chassis engineering have led to impressive improvements in the fuel economy of the entire range, without any compromises in performance: the standard 2.0CDTi turbo diesel engines are now comfortably inside tax band A without any sacrifice in power or torque; they’re still available in 130 or 160hp outputs.

Included in a raft of refinements to the engine range is our new CO2 reducing Start/Stop technology on most manual models, which automatically shuts the engine off when the car is stationary and in neutral, then restarts it immediately as the clutch pedal is pressed to select first gear to move off again.

A new turbo petrol engine has been added to the range: this sits in tax band B yet develops 140hp with 200Nm of torque available from only 1850rpm. This smooth engine, which replaces its 1.8 petrol predecessor, is competitively priced; available from only €24,995.

Engineering refinements also benefit the Insignia 2.0CDTi 160hp 4X4, which drops into tax band C. This remarkable system constantly monitors all four wheels and allocates drive to those with most grip, ensuring optimal power delivery on ice, snow and wet roads in combination with the ESP+ system, to maximise safety in all conditions.

But it isn’t just about safety on slippery roads: the 4X4 system comes with Opel’s FlexRide suspension system and an electronically controlled Limited Slip Differential (eLSD) on the rear axle as standard, for maximum cornering stability. Choose Sport Mode and drive is biased to the rear axle, the suspension stiffens, throttle response sharpens and the chassis becomes more sporting in character for a more dynamic driving experience!

The Satellite Navigation System, which is now standard on all trims bar the S, has an integrated 7” colour screen mounted on the dashboard which sits in the drivers’ eye-line. An ergonomically optimised rotary push/turn controller sits beside the gearlever for ease of access. The 7” colour screen, in addition to displaying the satellite navigation maps/arrows, displays climate control settings, stereo information (including iPod information if one is connected via the standard USB connector), car system settings and Bluetooth mobile phone information (if fitted).

The SRi is the sporting model in the Insignia range, coming with ergonomic sports front seats, lowered suspension, 18” 5 x twinspoke alloy wheels, alloy pedals and other driver-focussed touches including a sleek piano-black dashboard finish and now a satellite navigation system.

The SRi Limited Edition takes this a step further, adding an OPC Line Exterior Body Kit which features subtle extensions to the front and rear bumpers and side sills; an OPC Line Interior kit which includes a racing-style flat-bottomed leather steering wheel and alloy gear handle; front and rear parking distance sensors and a Bluetooth mobile phone system all as standard.  Uniquely it is the only Insignia except for the high performance 325hp OPC model to be available in Power Red, but is also available in Summit White or Carbon Flash Black. The SRi Limited Edition is available from only €29,995.

The 2012 Insignia is now available to order from your local Opel Dealer.
