Astra engines1 prove that it is possible to balance lively performance with fuel efficiency and low emissions. Leading edge technology, leaner, greener, and packing more fun, the Opel Astra ECOTEC® engines deliver excellent performance and remarkably low fuel consumption in the compact class.
The Opel Astra engine line-up features petrol and diesel engines ranging from 95PS (70 kW) to 165PS (121 kW). All engines meet Euro 5 emission standards.
Both diesel and petrol variants are available with an advanced, precise and easy-shifting 5- or 6-speed manual transmission, while an all-new automatic 6-speed transmission with ActiveSelect® available on the 2.0CDTi 16v diesel.
For some drivers the environment comes before everything else. With CO2 emissions starting at 109g/km – the Astra is available with several diesel engines in Car Tax Band A.
For many drivers the environment is a key concern. If you share this commitment, the Opel Astra now offers a real choice.
Consumption and emissions on all ecoFLEX models are reduced by optimising engine control technology and gear ratios, fine tuning the front and underbody aerodynamics, fitting electric power steering and intelligent electric power management – and a shift-up lindicator in the instrument panel.
The 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX diesel models feature an active grill shutter and delivers a healthy 70 kW (95 hp) with a combined consumption of only 3.7 litres and a remarkably low CO2 emissions level of only 109 g/km.
The Start/Stop System further optimises fuel savings, especially in city traffic. The engine stops when the car comes to a standstill with transmission in neutral and starts instantly as soon as the clutch pedal is depressed again. The system can be activated/deactivated via a button on the centre console. When the system is active and the engine is stopped, the rev-counter needle goes to the labelled ’AUTOSTOP‘ position to signal readiness for automatic start. The Start/Stop System uses an enhanced alternator, starter, and a specially designed battery.

All figures quoted relate to the EU base model with standard equipment. Fuel consumption data and CO2 emission data determined according to regulation EC 715/2007 and regulation EC 692/2008, taking into consideration the vehicle weight in running order, as specified by the regulation. Additional equipment may lead to slightly highe rresults than the stated consumption and CO2 figures. In addition, it may increase the weight of the vehicle when empty and in some cases the permissible axle weights as well as the permissible total weight of the vehicle and reduce the permissible towing weights. This may lead to a reduction in top speed and increased acceleration time. The driving performance figures shown are attainable when the vehicle is empty (without driver) plus a load of 200 kilograms.
