The New Astra is available with Adaptive Forward Lighting, the most advance headlight system in the compact sector. AFL features bi-xenon headlights, that change their pattern to suit the location and the weather conditions. Sensing where the light’s need most the lights help you see around corners and even dip automatically when someone is coming the other way.
There are nine different lighting functions.
Pedestrian area light (up to 30km/h): Wider spread of light (an extra 8 degrees left and right) illuminates potential hazards.
Town light (30–55km/h): Wider and lower spread of light. Activated by vehicle speed together with street lighting.
Country road light (55–100km/h): Wider spread and brighter light than normal low beam. 70meter range without dazzle.
Motorway light (over 100km/h): 140meter range, higher and brighter than normal low beam, without dazzle.
Adverse weather light (up to 70km/h): Wiper or rain sensor activated for better vision in poor weather conditions.
High beam with assist (over 40km/h): Automatically switches from high to low beam by detecting oncoming or preceding vehicles.
Dynamic curve light (any speed): Activated by steering angle and speed, the headlights swivel up to 15 degrees into the bend.
Static cornering light (up to 40km/h, also when reversing): Throws light 90 degrees left or right for enhanced lateral vision.
LED daytime running light: Increases visibility to pedestrians and other road users without increasing fuel consumption.
The Opel Astra is not only equipped with state-of-the art active safety systems, but also protects its occupants with exemplary passive safety technologies.
Robust bumpers and highly efficient energy absorption systems deal with minor impacts. The bumper beams are precisely positioned for maximum protection in car to car low speed impacts, helping reduce repair bills and leading to excellent insurance classification.
The rigid passenger cell is mainly fabricated from high strength steel and surrounded by optimised deformation zones that protect in a controlled manner. Inside the seat belt pretensioners on the front seats, front, side and curtain airbags, Pedal Release System and active headrests all work together to safeguard you.
And to keep your Opel Astra safe from theft, there is an advanced alarm system available, which meets the most stringent insurance standards.
