Opel is fundamentally renewing its engine range. Three completely new petrol and diesel families are replacing the current core portfolio. As Opel Ireland prepares for the highly anticipated Opel Ampera, the revolutionary new type of electric vehicle, deliveries of the model have begun across Europe and are currently exceeding expectations with 7,000 orders placed.
Geneva. The Opel Ampera and the Chevrolet Volt have today won the “Car of the Year 2012” award. By handing victory to the revolutionary electric vehicles, the panel of judges, made up of 59 leading automotive journalists from 23 European nations, paid tribute to General Motor’s innovative foresight. The Opel Ampera / Chevrolet Volt were the undisputed winners with 330 points against VW Up (281) and Ford Focus (256).
Opel is looking forward to two world premieres at this year’s Geneva Motor Show (March 6-18, 2012): the all-new Mokka sub-compact SUV and the new Astra OPC. Entirely in line with this year’s show motto “Driving into the future”, with the new Mokka, Opel is the first German manufacturer to enter the fast growing SUV-B segment.
The independent consumer organization, European New Car Assessment Program (Euro-NCAP), has given its Advanced award to Opel for the automaker’s safety lighting system AFL (Adaptive Forward Lighting).
