Smart Mobility for Your Business

Make a brand statement

Many businesses are making the switch to electric vans in a move that saves money on fuel and maintenance, cuts tailpipe emissions to zero, reduces downtime and boosts their brand image. There are many government incentives to take advantage of, which help to reduce costs further.

As more and more governments pass legislation banning diesel engines in urban areas, operating electric vans makes perfect sense.

Have more questions?

Is there a specific warranty for the battery?

Yes. If you buy an electric van from Opel, it comes with an 8-year (or 160.000 km, whichever comes first) warranty. This covers you for any faults with the battery, plus guarantees that you will have at least 70% of its original capacity.

Do I need to always charge to 100%?

No. To maintain your battery health, it's recommended - for daily use - to charge to 80%. We know that the average daily mileage for a commercial vehicle is around 100 km. Our van ranges are more than enough to accommodate this without having charge to 100%. However, if you're planning a longer trip, it is obviously a good idea to start with a completely full battery.

What factors affect electric car battery performance?

Just as it is with internal combustion vans, factors like payload and the number of people you're transporting do affect performance. Expect a 50% reduction in battery range if you're transporting up to your vehicle’s max payload.

Again, just as with any vehicle, how and where you drive does too. Driving fast on hilly terrain will use up more energy. What is specific to electric batteries are extremes of temperature. Very cold weather affects your battery performance. The same goes for very hot weather. These are things to bear in mind when planning a longer trip, but don't affect day-to-day usage too much.

Do I need to install a wallbox?

Most businesses do install charging points at their vehicle depots and charge overnight when they're not needed and when electricity is often cheaper too.

What do I do if I need to top up during the day?

Easy. Just use the MyOpel app to find a fast charging station close-by. The best thing to do is to top up according to your needs (say 100 km), rather than charge to full because fast chargers are expensive.

What happens if I run out of charge?

It's extremely unlikely. That's the first thing to say. You will be given plenty of warning that you're running low and your app will locate the nearest charging points to your current location.

Can I benefit from any tax incentives by going electric?

Yes, businesses in Ireland can avail of several grants and incentives when purchasing an EV. You can discover more at www.seai.ie.

Are electric cars expensive to maintain?

No. They are cheaper to maintain because there are fewer moving parts and less mechanical engineering, That means no oil changes, no spark plugs, no exhaust system, no timing belt. Additionally, brake wear is lower thanks to regenerative braking. Over the long term, you can expect your maintenance bills to go down. Telematics systems also help you manage your fleets better with remote diagnostics, usage monitoring and more.

Is electric charging cheaper than diesel?

Yes it is. If you charge at the depot, you'll notice a huge difference - around one third of the cost per km that you would pay for diesel. Factor in the reduction in vehicle downtime and see your business's productivity get a real boost.
